Janet Jackson at the SB Bowl
One of my favorite shows ever at the Bowl, in the top five, I think. The venue had a sold-out, gorgeous evening, and there was something especially touching about his performance. A couple of times, I couldn't put my finger on it but I felt goosebumps and tearful from his music and show. As hard to explain as a shiver, it was. His hair, ridiculously, was the favorite thing. I mean that mane was a scene stealer, upstaged him his hair! Just magnificent, the fan or wind blowing in it, and I was slightly enchanted by that. Quite dramatic, the way the show opened, the eagle landing, dark and wild and sexy it was. Beautifully juxtaposed, the colors of the lights in the show, and the rain sequence was totally new and thrilling to me. An effect that I found to be brilliant was Janet singing to a projected image of a male singer on scrim, and simultaneously vector type program connecting lines and dots which looked like an astronomical growth pattern right in front of the singer's body. His voice was beautiful and breathy as always, and of course sounded like Michael at times. One has to wonder if the proximity to Neverland and the resulting drama in this county for the Jackson family had some effect on his performance, in a good way. Artists putting feeling into their work and performance in a beautiful way. The dancers were off the hook, the show was choreographed in a very sophisticated way, and I enjoyed every single moment of it.
